In what could have been a fatal incident, a driver in Lagos State narrowly escaped death after an articulated truck carrying a 40ft container fell onto his Toyota car along the Cement bus stop inward Dopemu area of Lagos State. The incident occurred at about 4 pm on Monday.
Luckily, there were no casualties as there was no one in the car when the accident occurred. According to the spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo, the accident was a result of brake failure.
“The truck was moving inward Dopemu when its brake failed. The driver lost control, and in the process, the container fell on a red Toyota Camry parked by the roadside. There was no one in the car when it happened,” said Taofiq.
This incident highlights the need for truck drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good shape before embarking on any journey. The LASTMA General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, recently had a meeting with the association of truck drivers, where he emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance and safety.
As we thank Providence for the driver’s fortunate escape, road safety authorities must continue to enforce strict regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
