Nollywood actor and media personality, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, also known as Nedu, has expressed his displeasure over ladies who describe themselves as “independent” but still depend on men to fund their lifestyles. During the latest episode of The Honest Bunch audiovisual podcast, which Nedu co-hosts, he stated that most women who claim to be independent are actually mistresses of married men who pay for their luxurious lifestyles. He expressed disapproval, stating that such women do not belong in the same category as those who work hard to earn a living. Nedu went further to emphasize that hardworking women are those who hustle for contracts and refuse to compromise their integrity be giving in to sexual advances for employment offers. He opined that true independence can only be achieved when women work hard for their income and do not rely on men for financial assistance. His statement has generated various reactions from Nigerians, with some agreeing with his sentiments, while others believe he has no right to judge women’s choices. Some Nigerians have also accused him of perpetuating patriarchal beliefs and undermining women’s autonomy. In conclusion, Nedu’s message stresses the importance of financial independence for women, but it remains to be seen if his opinions will be taken into consideration by society.
