Police Apprehend Imposter Claiming to be ‘Police Inspector’ in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has captured an individual who had been masquerading as a Police Inspector under the jurisdiction of the Command. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.

The suspect had been utilizing his unregistered motorcycle for commercial transportation purposes around the Ikorodu zone in Lagos before his arrest. On Sunday at around 10:22 p.m., a patrol team, who suspected he was an impostor, stopped him to verify his identity.

“The suspect impersonated and claimed to be an Inspector of Police. The suspect has no fixed police formation, and the identity card found on him was not genuine,” Hundeyin stated.

The suspect is presently in police custody, and his motorcycle has been confiscated. He will be handed over to the Taskforce and taken to court shortly to face charges of impersonation.

Nigerians have been urged by the Command to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or behavior to the police. The capture of this impersonator by the police is a welcome development and will serve as a warning to others who may be engaging in similar illegal activities. It is critical to maintain law and order in the society, and the police’s efforts to achieve this must be supported by all.
