Commissioner joins race for Taraba’s Reps bye-election

The Taraba State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. David Ishaya Kassa, on Wednesday, announced his decision to contest the vacant Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency seat in the forthcoming bye election in the constituency.

Kassa, who contested the Peoples Democratic Party primary election for Taraba North Senatorial zone in the just concluded election, made the declaration when he received over 100 youths from Zing, Yorro and Jalingo who visited him in Jalingo and called on him to contest for the seat.

“I have heard your call. I have also received calls from various groups and stakeholders who want me to run for the seat. On my part, I have also consulted widely with all the stakeholders.

“I want to announce to you that I have accepted your call. I have also accepted the call of our women, support groups, and traditional and opinion leaders who want me to represent them at this time in the green chamber of the National Assembly.

“The people of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing deserve good leadership both at the state and national level and I represent that voice and leadership that would drive the needed positive change in the area.

“My service to the people of Taraba as Commissioner for Agriculture and the leadership I provided can be attested to by all who have come close to me.

“If given the mandate I will work closely with the PDP led government at the State level and bring dividends of democracy to the people of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing,” he pledged.

Earlier, Mr. David Edan who led over 100 youths in the constituency calling on David Kassa to contest the bye-election extolled his leadership qualities and called on him to run for the election, adding that his services were needed most at this time in the constituency.

Edan said the people of Zing have agreed to support David Ishaya Kassa from Yorro for the seat and called on the people of Jalingo to do the same in the interest of fairness and balance.

Our correspondent reports that the seat for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing became vacant following the death of the member-elect for the constituency Hon. Ismaila Maihanci.
