The Yobe State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of 17 nominees for the position of the local government caretaker management committees. They will hold office for six months to oversee the councils’ affairs in the state.
The confirmation, which took place during a plenary on Wednesday led by Hon. Bukar Mustapha, the Leader of the House, followed the nomination by the executive arm of government.
The newly appointed Chairmen are; Ibrahim Babagana (Bade LG), Lawan Bukar (Bursari LG), Bukar Adamu (Damaturu LG), Halima Kyari Joda (Fika LG), Baba Goni Mustapha (Fune LG), Musa Mohammed (Geidam LG), Dala Mala (Gujba LG), Dayyabu Ilu (Gulani LG) and Umar Abba (Jakusko LG).
Others are Lawan Alhaji Gana (Karasuwa LG), Bukar A Bukar (Machina LG), Alhaji Salisu Yerima (Nangere LG), Alhaji Modu Kachalla (Nguru LG), Salisu Muktari (Potiskum LG), Mohammed Lamido Musa (Tarmuwa LG), Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim (Yusufari LG), and Zannah Zakariyya Kalgi (Yunusari LG).
During the sitting, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Lawan Mirwa, the Speaker of the House, called on the newly confirmed Caretaker Committee members to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them and work towards the development of their respective local government areas.
It is noteworthy that Governor Mai Mala Buni had earlier approved November 25, 2023, as the date for the conduct of local government council elections in the state. The appointment of caretaker committees is expected to ensure uninterrupted development in the local councils while preparations are being made to conduct the elections.
