Sokoto Police Reject N800,000 Bribe, Commend Officers for Professionalism

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ali Hayatu Kaigama, recently lauded his officers for demonstrating professionalism and rejecting a bribe of N800,000. The bribe was offered to the officers after they intercepted suspects behind the theft of copper wires in the state.

In a press statement made available to the public, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, stated that CP Kaigama commended the officers for their high sense of duty and professionalism.

During a routine patrol by the detectives attached to Bodinga Police Station, copper wires were found and confiscated from the suspects, who later confessed to having conspired with one Habibu Namadi and vandalizing a transformer located in Kauran Mido Area in Bodinga, Sokoto.

Further interrogation also led to the interception of a vehicle carrying large rolls of copper wires which were suspected to have been stolen from electric poles along the Birnin Kebbi road. When stopped by policemen patrolling the area, the suspects offered a bribe of N800,000 in an attempt to be allowed to pass with the illegal contraband. The officers rejected the bribe, confiscated the money as evidence and brought the suspects before the State Criminal and Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

The statement also warned unpatriotic individuals against destroying government infrastructure, such as electric poles, and political party affiliates against any unwanted acts before, during and after the forthcoming inauguration. The authorities pledged to work collaboratively with all other security agencies to decisively deal with anyone attempting to harm innocent civilians. The Command reassured the public that it would sustain its tempo in vigorous patrols and raiding of criminal hideouts until the good people of Sokoto State can sleep soundly with their two eyes closed.
