The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the appointment of Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), making her the first female to occupy this position.
The news was made public in a statement released on Friday by the Director of Communication in the Presidency, Mohammed Ahmed. The statement noted that Madein was appointed after a successful selection process for filling the AGF’s vacant position.
The appointment, which took effect from Thursday, May 18, 2021, was confirmed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Folasade Yemi-Esan.
Madein, an indigene of Ogun State, was among the 20 shortlisted candidates who were interviewed for the position in January. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Director of Finance and Accounts, HoCSF.
With a Ph.D. in Management Finance from Walden University, Minnesota, USA, Madein is an accomplished professional with years of experience in finance and accounting.
The new AGF’s appointment is expected to enhance the Nigerian government’s drive towards gender diversity and inclusivity in leadership positions.
