Abeokuta Catholic Diocese Celebrates World Communications Day

The Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese, Most Rev Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, is set to host media executives and practitioners to a symposium to commemorate this year’s World Communications Day.

The event, which has been organised by the Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Abeokuta Diocese chapter, is themed ‘Speaking with the heart: The truth in love’ – a statement made by the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

On Sunday, a special thanksgiving mass would take place at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cathedral in Itesi, Abeokuta, by 10 am to kick off the celebration.

After the mass, a symposium featuring top media executives and professionals is set to hold at the cathedral’s hall, with the theme extensively discussed. The event would be chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of Rock City FM Abeokuta, Dr Niran Malaolu.

Mr Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director, International Press Institute Lagos, would speak as the guest speaker of the day on how the media and media practitioners can deliver the truth in love.

The discussion panelists include Mrs Funke Egbemode, former Osun State Commissioner for Information; Waheed Odusile, Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy; Lekan Otunfodunrin, Executive Director and Founder, Media Career Development Centre; and Adeleye Ajayi, Lagos Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

In conclusion, the event promises to be enlightening and educative, with the possibility of proffering solutions to contemporary media challenges in Nigeria.
