Nottingham Forest’s striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, is on the verge of joining the elite list of players at the club who have scored in three consecutive games when they take on Arsenal at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday. Awoniyi has been in immense form since returning from a two-month groin injury layoff, having missed nine games in the process.
The Nigerian has already scored twice in two consecutive games against Chelsea and Southampton, raising his goals tally to nine this season. If he hits the back of the net against Arsenal, he will join Danilo and Dougie Freedman in the exclusive club of Forest players who have scored in three straight Premier League games.
However, while Danilo achieved this feat this season, Freedman accomplished this accomplishment during the 1999 season. Awoniyi, who is currently tied with Brennan Johnson as Forest’s top scorer with eight goals, will seek to score his tenth goal of the season and provide Forest with a much-needed boost.
Nottingham Forest is currently placed 16th in the Premier League, with 34 points and two games to play. They are fighting to avoid relegation and will be counting on Awoniyi’s remarkable form to help them end their winless run of four defeats against Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal has scored ten goals and has conceded just one against Forest during their current winning run.
All in all, Nottingham Forest is banking on Awoniyi’s talents to make history and keep the club in the Premier League.
