The premiere of the full-length animation movie titled “Gammy and the Living Things” was graced by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and other celebrities in the creative industry. The movie was screened at FilmHouse Cinemas, Victoria Island, Lagos, and produced by Utricle Studio.
In his speech, Osinbajo highlighted the numerous opportunities in the Nigerian creative sector, with special emphasis on the animation industry. He mentioned the potential of this industry for the creation of exportable content, which could lead to job opportunities for thousands of young Nigerians.
“Gammy and the Living Things” is a family-friendly animation musical that has been described by its producers as “celebrating the endless possibilities of Africa”. They mentioned that the project provided the perfect balance of Nigerian storytelling, music, art, and a Pan-African cast with a global perspective.
The movie features a 13-track album titled “Rites of Passage,” comprising a mix of song remakes by popular Nigerian artistes from the 80s and 90s, alongside original tracks. Music by Blackky, Ras Kimono, Majek Fashek, The Mandators, and William Onyeabor were remade by a new generation of artistes, including 2Baba, Made Kuti, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Ric Hassani, Praiz, Johnny Drille, and Goya Menor.
The cast of the movie include industry veterans Pete Edochie, Segun Arinze, Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, and the late Sadiq Daba. Others featured in the movie are Ruby Gyang, Avril, John Dumelo, and Bovi.
Notable guests present at the event include Joke Silva, Segun Arinze, and Waje. The synergy between the Nigerian entertainment industry and politics is a significant milestone, signaling the possibility of nurturing and developing the industry to its maximum potential.
