Angolan Diplomat José Agostinho Neto Passes Away at 85

Angolan diplomat José Agostinho Neto, who also happened to be the brother of the country’s first president, passed away at the age of 85 due to an illness, in Lisbon, Portugal. According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), the ambassador was known affectionately as “Tio Loló”. The MIREX expressed its deep grief and high compassion while expressing condolences to Neto’s family. Neto was a diligent member of Angola’s ruling MPLA party and had served as Angola’s extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the Republics of Congo, Tanzania, and Botswana. He was also a non-executive director of the António Agostinho Neto Foundation (FAAA) – where he looked after his older brother’s legacy – and member of the BPC – Banco de Poupança e Crédito (Savings and Credit Bank). The message of condolence from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department was posted by Teté António.
