The Niger State Government has directed the establishment of private basic and secondary schools through an executive order to ensure that proprietors work within the ambit of the law. The state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Salihu, disclosed this at the public presentation of regulations for the establishment and operations of private basic and secondary schools (Executive Order No. 15 of 2023) at the launch of the re-validation of private school registration exercise in Minna.
As part of the implementation, a committee led by Hajiya Dije Bala comprising members from the Ministry and private sector in the state has been created. Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello has assented to the regulations, which are Executive Order No. 15 of 2023.
The government’s objective is to create a conducive environment for private sector education providers’ participation in basic and secondary education delivery. To achieve this, the implementation of the regulations through an executive order will ensure that all private schools are captured on the website.
According to the Executive Chairman of Niger State Private Schools Board, Yabagi Alkali, this executive order is an initiative geared towards making quality education accessible to all children for their overall development. It will serve as a standard working document and enable all actors to operate in an unambiguous and knowledge-based environment.
In summary, this executive order will regulate the establishment and operations of private basic and secondary schools in the state, and the government will continue to take steps to improve the quality of education and create an enabling environment for all education providers.
