Gunmen kill 18 in attack on Benue village

Unknown gunmen have attacked Iye village, in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State killing 18 people and injuring several others. The village is situated behind Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture in Makurdi, also known as JOSTUM. According to the residents of the village, the attack took place at around 7 pm on Sunday, and was confirmed by the Christopher Waku, the security adviser of Guma LGA. Waku stated that eighteen were killed during the attack, which lasted between 6 pm and 7 pm.

Commenting on the incident, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, also confirmed the attack and revealed that seven bodies had been recovered as of Monday morning. One of the suspected attackers was also killed during the attack.
