The Ekiti State Government fulfilled its promise to pensioners by handing out cheques for gratuity worth N915 million to 289 pensioners. The beneficiaries, consisting of state, local government and primary school retirees, expressed their gratitude to Governor Abiodun Oyebanji for his commitment to their welfare.
At the event, which took place in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Governor Oyebanji stated that his administration’s priority is to provide programs and policies that will improve the quality of life for pensioners and all Ekiti residents. Since his tenure began in October 2022, his administration has paid out over N1.2 billion in gratuity to both state and local government retirees, and monthly pensions have remained regular.
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and Joint Negotiating Council also expressed their appreciation to Governor Oyebanji for his commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners in the state.
The beneficiaries of the cheques hailed the governor’s payment of their dues, describing the event as “unprecedented” in the state. They took the opportunity to pray for the governor’s long life and wisdom to continue leading the state to greater heights.
Governor Oyebanji assured the pensioners that his administration would continue to prioritize their welfare and explore innovative ways to support them in their retirement. He also acknowledged the challenges facing retirees due to the delay in accessing their gratuity benefits as and when due.
