Jonathan Ball Publishers have decided to remove “The Outsider: Unauthorised Biography of Herman Mashaba” from the shelves, less than a month after its publication. The author and political analyst Prince Mashele wrote the book, and reports have now emerged that it was entirely financed with R12.5 million by Mashaba himself. The book was published on April 17th, 2023. In a statement, ActionSA’s national chairperson Michael Beaumont clarified that the project began two years before the party’s launch and said financing a project did not provide editorial control of the content. Jonathan Ball Publisher had no idea of the arrangement and will withdraw the book from the market.

Eskom recently warned of an unprecedented level of electricity cuts as the country faces its worst-ever power crisis.
Flailing Rand, Inflation Set to Drive Bigger Rates Hike – Report
The South African Reserve Bank will increase rates to combat inflation due to concerns over South Africa’s credit rating and inflation, as the rand recovered to R19.25 against the dollar after hitting a record low, reports IOL. Moody’s did not downgrade South Africa’s credit rating as expected, and the market expects the SARB’s Monetary Policy Committee to hike rates to combat inflation, which will be detrimental to economic growth. However, concerns about South Africa’s currency and the ongoing power crisis keep the rand vulnerable ahead of the SARB’s committee meeting.
