Osinbajo, others attend Shehu of Borno daughter’s wedding

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, led a presidential delegation to the wedding of the daughter of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi which was held in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Saturday.

Other members of the delegation included the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno; Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar; Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari; and a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Amb. Babagana Kingibe.

The Maiduguri central mosque, venue of the ceremony, was filled to capacity with many dignitaries, politicians, traditional rulers and their courtiers, and well-wishers from across the country.

The royal wedding which was between the son of the Emir of Lafiya, Umar Sidi Bage, and the Shehu’s daughter, Aisha, was also attended by 86 emirs and chiefs from different parts of the country.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, stood on behalf of the family of the bride while his Nasarawa State counterpart, Abdullahi Sule, represented the family of the groom.

The marriage solemnisation was officiated by the Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Laisu Ibrahim, in the presence of the Shehu upon the payment of N1m as bride price.

Prayers were later offered for peaceful 2023 elections, the stability of Borno and the entire country.

The Vice President and other dignitaries were later hosted at a launch at the presidential lodge in the Government House.
