According to Simon Ekpa, a Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, currently needs an urgent ear surgery. The ear ailment was inflicted on him as a result of torture, and it has been disturbing him on his left ear.
Making this known on his Twitter account, Ekpa stated that “MNK has instructed me to let Nigerians, Biafrans and all human rights organizations know that the ear ailment, which was inflicted on him as a result of torture has been disturbing him on his left ear.” He added that the Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that an urgent surgery is needed as Kanu is in severe pain and has trouble sleeping.
The news about Kanu’s ear ailment comes at a time when there have been growing concerns about his safety and well-being while in custody. The IPOB leader was arrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria, where he is currently facing trial for treasonable felony.
It is worth noting that Kanu’s trial has sparked protests in various parts of Nigeria and has become a source of tension between the Nigerian government and the pro-Biafra groups. The IPOB leader’s supporters have been agitating for his release, arguing that his detention is unjust and a violation of his human rights.
Therefore, the revelations made by Ekpa about Kanu’s ear ailment are likely to raise further concerns about his well-being and the conditions he is currently facing in detention. It remains to be seen what actions will be taken by the relevant authorities to address these concerns.
In the meantime, Nigerians, Biafrans, and human rights organizations are calling for urgent attention to be given to Kanu’s health condition. All efforts must be made to ensure that he receives the necessary medical attention to address his ear ailment, as failure to do so could lead to further complications.
All things considered, the health and well-being of any detainee should be given top priority, regardless of their political affiliation or the charges against them. The Nigerian government must, therefore, take steps to ensure that Kanu’s health is not further compromised, and that he receives all the medical attention that he needs.
