Aisha Buhari Guides Remi Tinubu on the Roles of First Ladies

In preparation for the official transition in the office of the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, the outgoing First Lady of Nigeria, has provided documents to Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President-elect, to guide her in carrying out her duties. Mrs Buhari revealed that her office had collaborated with numerous non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to carry out various humanitarian activities, and handed over the seal of the African First Ladies Peace Mission to Mrs Tinubu, who will resume office on May 29.

Although the role of the First Lady is not recognised by the constitution, Mrs Buhari stated that citizens still granted them goodwill to carry out basic humanitarian activities. Mrs Tinubu, the former First Lady of Lagos State, expressed gratitude to Mrs Buhari, calling her a great leader and pledging to make her counterpart proud. The meeting which marked the transition of power between the outgoing and incoming First Ladies was the first of such in the history of Nigeria.
