Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has given his prediction for the much anticipated Champions League final, scheduled to be played on 10th June in Istanbul, Turkey. According to the Belgian, Inter Milan is his favourite to win the European trophy over Manchester City.
While many have tipped the English champions to emerge victorious in the contest, Courtois is rooting for the Italian side specifically so his compatriot, Romelu Lukaku, can lift the trophy. Courtois and Lukaku have a good relationship, and he wants his friend to experience the joy of lifting such a significant trophy.
Inter Milan head into the final as significant underdogs, but Courtois is resolute in his predictions as he hopes to see Romelu Lukaku emerges victorious. Manchester City is currently on course to achieve the treble, having already won the Premier League title and slated to face arch-rivals, Manchester United in the FA Cup final on 3rd June.
Courtois’ choice tends to go against the popular belief that Manchester City is the better side, considering that, other Belgian national Kevin De Bruyne, will also feature in the final match for the English side.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper admits that while De Bruyne is his colleague in the Belgian national team, he has known Romelu Lukaku for a longer period and would prefer his success in the Champions League final.
“Well, I hope Romelu can win it. Obviously, it is him against Kevin, but I’ve known Romelu for a bit longer,” Courtois told Prime Video.
It will be interesting to see which of these two teams emerges victorious in the final matchup and whether Thibaut Courtois’ predictions come to pass.
