The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has implored the youth of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area to make use of the Dakkada Skill Acquisition Centre (DASAC) located in Ikot Ada Idem. The centre, which was inaugurated by the Governor, is his parting gift to the people of the area.

During the inauguration ceremony, Governor Emmanuel expressed his hope that with the centre’s completion, Akwa Ibom State would produce highly skilled technicians that can compete with their peers worldwide. He disclosed that the state joined forces with the University of Lagos to oversee the ultra-modern facility management. He added that the project was a reflection of his desire to utilize his tenure to create the desired change rather than simply managing situations created by others.

He called on the youth to seize the opportunity presented by the facility, revealing that the ultra-modern centre would enable the state to develop high-quality technicians that can rival other experts worldwide. Governor Emmanuel urged the youths of the area to make use of the facilities at the centre.

The partnership with the University of Lagos to manage the centre stemmed from the Governor’s desire to ensure that the institution understands the sociocultural structure and environment of the state.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Ayodele Atsenuwa, applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for entrusting the responsibility of managing the centre to the institution, assuring that they will produce well-rounded graduates who can go on to become employers of labour.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, who is an indigene of the area, praised Governor Emmanuel for transforming the institution, which formerly served as a Government Technical College, into a world-class skill acquisition centre. He stated that the institution’s conversion would enable significant development in the area and the state as a whole.
