Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has invited several dignitaries to commission various infrastructure projects as part of his administration’s Urban Renewal Programme on Friday.
The projects include the Safe City Command and Control Centre, new Ungwan Rimi Market, Umaru Yar’adua Road, Isa Kaita Road, and 10 other roads.
Former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, ex-national chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) – Chiefs Bisi Akande and John Odigie-Oyegun, former governors, and the two serving ministers from Kaduna state; Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed and Dr. Mohammed Abubakar, are among the invited dignitaries.
The commissioning will be the second phase of the urban renewal programme following the commissioning by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.
Explaining the choice of Sambo as one of the dignitaries, Mr. El-Rufai’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, said the former Vice-President is the highest-ranking elected official that Kaduna state has produced so far.
He added that Chief Bisi Akande, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Pastor Tunde Bakare, and former governor Ali Modu Sheriff would also be honoured for their sterling roles in the merger of the parties that fused into the APC.
According to Mr. Adekeye, “it is only right and proper to recognise the service of Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed and Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Abubakar as ministers from Kaduna State.”
The Urban Renewal Programme and projects undertaken by the newly created metropolitan authorities seek to expand and improve critical public infrastructure across the state. They are expected to link communities, attract investment and promote economic growth, while enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
It is hoped that the execution of these projects will improve the state’s image and transform the living standard of residents.
The commissioning will take place on Friday, and it is poised to enable the dignitaries to leverage the state’s enhanced infrastructure to either invest or visit key areas within the area.
