Mourinho Claims No “Close Bond” with Tottenham

Jose Mourinho, current manager of Roma and former Tottenham coach, has revealed that he does not have a strong emotional connection with Tottenham Hotspur, in comparison to his other former clubs.

Although Mourinho has managed top European teams like Real Madrid and Inter Milan, according to him, “Tottenham is the only club with which I do not have a close bond.”

It appears that the reason Mourinho feels this way is due to the circumstances surrounding his sacking by Tottenham. He stated, “Probably because the stadium was empty at the time of Covid and because President Levy didn’t let me play the final and win the trophy.”

Despite his lack of fondness for the club, Mourinho’s time at Tottenham was not without success. He oversaw their qualification for the Europa League in his first season and led them to the final of the Carabao Cup in his second season.

However, his tenure ended abruptly in April 2021, just days before the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. Ryan Mason, a former Tottenham player, served as interim coach for the final, which Tottenham lost 1-0 against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
