The Arewa Youths have urged the President-elect, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, not to betray the North West as they do not perceive him as the “use and dump” type. The call comes amidst criticisms following the micro-zoning of presiding officers of the 10th National Assembly. The group reminded the President-elect that the North West gave him 30 percent of the votes he got in the recently concluded presidential election, which was the highest out of the six geopolitical zones in the country.

The Arewa Youths made this call during a peaceful protest in sympathy with Senator Abdulaziz Yari for the position of Senate President. The group expressed surprise when they read reports that the President-elect was allegedly supporting a South-South candidate for Senate President instead of a North-west candidate.

The zonal coordinator of the group, Dr. Tanko Abdullahi, represented by the President of Northern Youths Council, Useni Abubakar, cautioned the President-elect not to allow sycophants to deceive him. He reminded the President-elect that the North-west supported him due to their belief that political loyalty could be repaid with political loyalty.

Abdullahi further stated, “We do not know the President-elect as a use and dump leader, hence we want to remind Senator Tinubu not to betray the good people of North-west Nigeria.”

It is yet unclear if Tinubu has made any official statement regarding this call by the Arewa Youths. However, this is yet another indication that political leaders must be sensitive to the expectations of the masses.
