Five NYSC Members to Repeat Service Year in Bauchi State for Various Offences

Five members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were part of the 2022 Batch B Stream 1, posted to Bauchi State, have been instructed to repeat their service year due to various offences committed during their previous service. This announcement was made by Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, the Bauchi State coordinator of the NYSC.

Mrs Yakubu was speaking during the collection of certificates of national service by corps members in Bauchi State when she disclosed the decision taken by the NYSC regarding the said five persons. According to her, the sanctioned corps members were found guilty of absconding and absenteeism during their service year. She also reemphasized the NYSC’s strict policy against truancy, warning that the institution would not hesitate to enforce punishment on anyone who contravenes its rules.

The NYSC coordinator further stated that 10 other corps members have been placed on punishment. They would have to extend their service year for at least three weeks or a month for different kinds of misconduct during their service year, she said.

Mrs Yakubu also enjoined the outgoing corps members to avoid traveling at night, urging them to go home and reunite with their parents and relatives. She advised corps members to complete their training in the post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. She advised corps members who were unable to learn any skill during the service year to start something as soon as they leave to avoid becoming a burden on their families.

“Your parents would like to see you doing something, no matter how little; it is better than staying at home doing nothing,” Yakubu said.
