The Northern Youth Forum for Good Governance (NYDGG) has called on the G7 aspirants to back Abbas Tajudeen’s nomination for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly. The group made this appeal at a press conference in Abuja, as the race to become the next Speaker of the National Assembly intensifies.
The APC has endorsed Tajudeen, creating internal controversy among members who aspire to the position. However, the NYDGG urged members of the House of Representatives to bury their differences and accept the party’s decision, as well as that of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Bilal Abdullahi, the President of the NYDGG, “Given that Hon Tajudeen Abass has the endorsement of the President-Elect, we wish to use this medium to appeal to the G7 and other members-elect to see the reason behind the choice of Hon Tajudeen Abass. The APC must stay united at the risk of allowing some dramatic outcomes during the elections of principal officers in the House of Representatives.”
The G7 group consists of members of the House of Representatives who are aspiring to become the next Speaker. They include Ahmed Wase, the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Betara, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, and Yusuf Gagdi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Navy. Others are Sada Soli (APC-Katsina), Sani Jaji (APC-Zamfara), Miriam Onuhoa (APC-Imo), and Rep Ado Doguwa, who recently pulled out.
As the race for the Speakership of the National Assembly takes shape, it remains to be seen which of the aspirants will carry the day.
