Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari, has expressed optimism that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, can achieve greatness as the President of Nigeria if he surrounds himself with the right people. Shagari made this remark while featuring as a guest on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” show on Thursday.

According to him, Tinubu can attain success as the President of Nigeria if he repeats what he did in Lagos at the national level, and brings in the right people who have integrity and know what they are doing. Shagari also cautioned Tinubu to make security a top priority and be cautious of sycophants who might only tell him what he wants to hear.

“First of all, he (Tinubu) must be very careful of sycophants, people who will tell him stories, people who will tell him things they believe he will want to hear”, Shagari stated. “Another one is that he must take the issue of security seriously, people are still being killed, people are still being kidnapped, and after that, he must look at the economy. I know he will be able to bring people who will help him build the economy.”

The ex-deputy governor also emphasized the importance of Tinubu having the right team to work with, stating that having talent alone is not enough to achieve greatness.

Shagari’s advice comes amid speculation that Tinubu, a politician and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), plans to run for President in the 2023 general elections. It remains to be seen whether Tinubu will heed his counsel and surround himself with the right team to achieve success as a potential Nigerian President.
