The Adamawa State House of Assembly has suspended the executive chairman of Mubi South Local Government Area, Hon Hamidu Adamu Jingi, alongside the vice chairman and the 10 councillors representing the various wards in the LGA. The suspension came after an announcement by five of the ten councillors of the Mubi South Local Government Council that declared Jingi sacked over allegations of financial misconduct and incompetence.
Reacting to the development, the Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON) condemned the purported impeachment of Jingi, the Mubi South Council chairman, describing it as a criminal act that could not be allowed to stand. The state chairman of ALGON, Abdulsalam Gidado, who is also the chairman of Song Local Government Council, disclosed that all ALGON members unanimously condemned the purported impeachment.
The speaker of the state assembly, Aminu Iya Abbas, who presided over the sitting on Friday, directed its ad hoc committee headed by Bauna Myandassa to conclude the investigation on the matter involving the suspended officials and submit its report in one week. The assembly has also called for all parties in the case to step down from their positions in the council while the committee examines the issues and takes what may become the final decision.
This development has brought to the fore the growing political imbroglio amongst elected officials in the state’s local government areas.
