The Coalition for True Governance has condemned the killing of the traditional ruler of Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State and the traditional prime minister of Mgbele community. In a statement, the group described the assassination of the traditional rulers as an appalling act of violence that threatens stability, heritage, and unity in the community. The group urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to restore peace in Oguta and across Imo State.
The convener of the Coalition for True Governance, Chief Charles Odenigbo, called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Imo State. The group accused Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, of failing to secure the lives and property of the residents in the state.
According to the group, a state of emergency will provide the government with the necessary authority and resources to combat escalating violence and restore law and order in the state. The group also urged the government to launch a thorough investigation into the killing of the traditional ruler in Oguta and to hold all those involved accountable for their actions.
The Coalition for True Governance also implored the Nigerian government to prioritize community engagement, dialogue, and reconciliation initiatives in Imo State. Building trust between the government, security agencies, and the local population is crucial for fostering lasting peace and stability. The group called on the international community, particularly regional organizations and human rights bodies, to closely monitor the situation in Imo State and provide necessary support and assistance to the Nigerian government in its efforts to restore peace and security.
The killings in Imo State have sparked national concern, with many calling for urgent action to address the rising insecurity in the country. It is hoped that the Nigerian government will heed the calls of concerned citizens and take appropriate measures to prevent further loss of lives and property.
