Enugu State Governor-elect, Barrister Peter Mbah, has emphasized that his upcoming administration will be governed by the rule of law. He made this declaration after declaring his assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau in Enugu. Mbah himself visited the bureau to submit his asset declaration forms which he described as critical to promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

In a statement to journalists after submitting his forms to the South East Zonal Office of the CCB, headed by Barr. Benedict Umeano, Mbah stated, “As the Chief Executive, we are meant to uphold the law. It is also incumbent on us to act lawfully so what we have simply done here today is in line with the new direction of my career. What we have simply done today is to comply with the requirements of the law by filling the forms as stipulated by law.”

With his inauguration slated for Monday, May 29, the governor-elect also added that all those appointed to work in his administration would have to undergo the same declaration process. According to him, “My administration shall be upholding these requirements for all public officers. It is mandatory and it’s not an option. As public servants, we are not left with any option, but to fill our CCB forms. We must abide by the provisions of the law.”

Reacting to Mbah’s move, the Code of Conduct Bureau Federal Commissioner for the South-East Zone, Umeano, commended him for leading by example. “By the grace of God, by Monday, he (Mbah) will be the chief law officer of the state. By this submission, he has shown that he is going to lead by example. He has given a good example to the rest of the other politicians and even those who are going to be his functionaries that they have to comply with the rule of law. We commend him for this,” he said.

Barrister Peter Mbah was declared the winner of the April 2019 Enugu State gubernatorial election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
