FG Declares Monday a Public Holiday in Commemoration of May 29 Inauguration

The Federal Government has declared Monday, May 27th, 2019, a public holiday to commemorate the May 29 inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President-elect. This announcement was made by the outgoing Minister for Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in Abuja on Thursday.

Dr Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed this announcement, restating the minister’s appeal to all Nigerians to promote democracy by upholding the rule of law and supporting all democratic institutions. Aregbesola also emphasized the need to shun violence and any form of unruly behaviour.

The Minister further noted the importance of adhering to democracy’s fundamental principles, which include a commitment to the rule of law, support for democratic institutions, promotion of a free and responsible press, and the advancement of freedom and equality for all Nigerians.
