In a major boost to the ambitions of Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu to lead the 10th House of Representatives, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has given his endorsement. The duo, who are the anointed candidates of their party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, were received in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, by Wike, who promised his full support.

The governor described Abbas and Kalu as the most qualified aspirants for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively, assuring them of his commitment to deliver Rivers State’s votes for them. According to Wike, all 13 members-elect from Rivers State, with the exception of one, are supporting Abbas and Kalu 100%.

Wike also promised to do everything possible to prevent a repeat of the 2015 scenario, where members-elect went against their party and emerged as leaders of the National Assembly. He urged all members to fully support Abbas and to avoid doing something else at night after showing support during the day.

In a statement to the press, Ikenga Ugochinyere, a House of Representatives member-elect and spokesman for the Tajudeen-Ben Kalu, TBK Group, expressed excitement over Wike’s endorsement. He said the visit was a victory consolidation, and the two lawmakers were seconds away from emerging victorious.

This endorsement from Wike is likely to boost the confidence of Abbas and Kalu, as they seek to lead the 10th House of Representatives with the full backing of their party and key stakeholders.
