President Buhari commends Nigeria Navy’s contribution to internal security

President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has praised the Nigeria Navy for their operational support and contribution towards ending internal security challenges in the country. Speaking virtually at the commissioning of the Nigeria Navy Logistics College in Dawakin-Tofa, Kano, the President also inaugurated other projects including the ultramodern Correctional Centre, the International Terminal Building of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, and the procurement of aircraft, equipment, and buildings at the College of Aviation Technology Zaria, Kaduna.

He commended the Nigeria Navy and other security agencies for their effective conduct, which has significantly improved security in the country. The President also hailed the Chief of Naval Staff and his team for their infrastructural development and partnership with other institutions, noting that the college would enhance intelligence opportunities in the management of logistics operations.

The Defence Minister, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), explained that President Buhari’s support had propelled the Nigerian Navy to commence major rehabilitation works and the construction of additional facilities to set up a world-class military logistics training institution. The Logistics College has been affiliated with the Nigerian Defence Academy for the award of a Master’s in Logistics and Supply Chain Management to student officers on completion of the one-year training. The Minister added that efforts were being concluded to accredit the college as a monotechnic that could run national and higher national diploma courses for service personnel and civilians.

The college has been granted provisional accreditation for Procurement and Supply Chain Management as well as Catering and Hospitality Management courses, Magashi revealed. The Nigerian Navy Logistics College is a professional training institution responsible for training Nigerian Navy Logistics personnel, sister services’ personnel, para-military organizations, and the civilian populace. The Defense Minister expressed his gratitude to the Kano state government for its unwavering support towards realizing the goal, especially in allocating vast land covering approximately 103 hectares with existing structures at no cost to the Nigerian Navy.

Overall, the Nigerian Navy’s contribution to internal security challenges has been outstanding, as recognized by the President’s commendations. The inauguration of the world-class military logistics training institution further aims to improve internal security and intelligence operations in Nigeria.
