Renowned former head coach of Manchester United, Rene Meulensteen, has issued a warning against the purchase of Brazilian international, Neymar, by the English club. The Red Devils have reportedly shown an interest in the player and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag neither confirmed nor denied this move during a recent press conference.
However, Meulensteen, who had previously worked under the tutelage of Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, expressed his reservations about the intended acquisition. The former coach opined that Neymar is not an easy player to maintain and warned that the club would face selection troubles if they sign him, especially as Marcus Rashford currently occupies the left wing position.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Meulensteen said, “It’s probably rumors and speculation, everybody keeps tight-lipped about it. I have my reservations about it because he’s obviously a high-caliber player but he’s also a prima donna. He’s never played in the Premier League. Playing in Spain and France is completely different.”
The coach continued by stating, “Also his best position is playing on the left wing and you’re going to go with Rashford.”
