Sultan advises Tinubu to focus on development, not the next election

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar III, has urged President-elect Bola Tinubu to prioritize the development of the country and its future generation over winning the next election. According to the monarch, political leaders should consider the next generation, not just the next election.

This remark was made at an event in Abuja where former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta delivered an inaugural lecture on deepening democracy for integration and development. Kenyatta also advised Tinubu to reach out to those who may have disagreements with his emergence, in order to unite the country and build a better nation.

Kenyatta noted that Tinubu must embody the role of a visionary leader and unite all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations. He further advised him to surround himself with opposing voices and transcend beyond tactical politics.

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Rt. Reverend Mathew Kukah, emphasized the importance of managing diversity, promoting ethnic unity, and ending poverty across religious, tribal, and other group identities.

Kukah maintained that Nigerians were experiencing various levels of multidimensional poverty, regardless of their religious beliefs or tribal affiliations. He encouraged the Vice President-elect to make Nigeria liveable and believable for all citizens.

In conclusion, Nigeria needs a leader who thinks about the country’s next generation, unity, and development more than they think about the next election.
