The outgoing Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has revealed that he is the most sued minister in the Buhari-led government, with about 36 pending court cases. However, he stated that he had, during his tenure, achieved several successes in his activities as a minister, proving his worth.
During a send-forth party held in his honour by staff in Abuja on Friday night, Mohammed thanked all those in attendance for the reminisces and celebration, which he termed a fitting end to an epic journey. He also acknowledged the outstanding confidence shown in him by President Muhammadu Buhari, which has enabled him to serve for the longest period as a Minister of Information and Culture.
Mohammed outlined his achievements while in office, noting that they were made possible by the support and cooperation of his staff and agencies of the ministry. He said that his team kept Nigerians informed of the developments in the government through regular media interactions. This was done, he said, through the Town Hall meeting series, presentation by honourable ministers, testimonies by ordinary Nigerians, documentaries and a compendium of all the presentations.
Mohammed further revealed that the administration enhanced citizens’ participation in governance by facilitating access by citizens and the global community to credible and timely information. He added that they projected the achievements of the government by creating a scorecard series that highlighted presentations by honourable ministers, documentaries, testimonies by Nigerians, and a compendium on these presentations.
According to Mohammed, his team also ensured that all achievements were adequately documented via an electronic portal, a feat that had never been accomplished before. Additionally, they hosted four international events in Nigeria, which included the IPICongress, UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week, and UNWTO CAF. He said this achievement helped to reassure the world that Nigeria was safe for business and leisure.
Mohammed noted that his team succeeded in retrieving our timeless artefacts from countries where they had been looted and that their approach was now being used by other countries worldwide. To buttress this fact, Nigeria has recently retrieved several looted artefacts from various countries, which is in tandem with the law guiding such retrievals.
He concluded by thanking President Buhari for his unflinching support, his family for standing by him, and God for charting his path and giving them all good health. He encouraged his staff to extend to his successor the same warm cooperation they extended to him and his team and urged Nigerians to embrace peace and unity, which he said were essential for Nigeria’s growth and development.
In summary, Lai Mohammed, notwithstanding his numerous court cases, has demonstrated his worth as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his achievements will continue to benefit the nation for many years to come.
