Bayern Munich has sacked CEO Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic just moments after clinching their 11th straight Bundesliga title on Saturday. The announcement came through a statement on the club’s website an hour after the game ended. The statement also confirmed that there would be a press conference held on Sunday to address the decision.

The club’s supervisory board made the decision, and the statement read, “Oliver Kahn is no longer CEO of FC Bayern Munchen. Hasan Salihamidzic will also be replaced as a board member for sport”. It also revealed that Jan-Christian Dreesen, the current vice-chairman of the board, would replace Kahn, while a successor for Salihamidzic’s position is yet to be determined.

Kahn congratulated the team for the victory on Twitter but revealed that he couldn’t celebrate with them as the club prohibited him from doing so. Salihamidzic expressed his pride in working for Bayern and called it a beautiful journey he would like to continue, respecting the board’s decision.

Bayern’s Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Herbert Hainer, stated in the announcement that “the decision to part with Oliver Kahn was anything but easy for the supervisory board. Nevertheless, due to the overall development, we have come to the decision to make a new appointment at the top of the executive board”.

The club’s season saw them exit the German Cup and Champions League in the quarter-final stage, and they won the league title after Borussia Dortmund drew against Mainz on the final day. Salihamidzic and Kahn took a significant risk by hiring Thomas Tuchel as the new coach after parting ways with Julian Nagelsmann, but the results did not improve.

Kahn became Chairman of the Board in July 2021, and Salihamidzic became the sports director in July 2017, joining the management board in 2020. During their tenure, the club won the Champions League in 2020 and the Bundesliga every year.

In summary, Bayern Munich, following their turbulent season, has relieved CEO Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic of their positions. This decision was made public shortly after the club clinched its 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.
