In an unprecedented move, an angry mob of youths stormed the Radio Nigeria Amuludun FM 99.1 station in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, effectively shutting down operations on Sunday morning. Sources confirmed that the youths were seeking to take over the running of the programme from the legitimate broadcasters.

Amidst the chaos, security operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene and were able to dislodge the protesters, allowing the station to regain control of its premises once more. The radio station, which is located at J&P Bus-stop, Moniya in Ibadan, Akinyele Local Government Area of the state, has been broadcasting in pure and undiluted Yoruba since it was established on October 10, 2007.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no further details have been released at the time of reporting. However, it’s notable that this is not the first time an attack of this nature has occurred in Nigeria. Earlier this year, hoodlums vandalized the Lagos office of Television Continental and left it in ruins.

As the security operatives work to restore normalcy back to the area, it’s imperative that investigations into the incidents be conducted, and that the perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
