Gbajabiamila Convenes Emergency Session Less Than 24 Hours Before Buhari’s Exit

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called for an emergency session of the House, less than 24 hours before the transition to a new administration, following eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The session will take place at 1 pm, but the agenda has not been disclosed to the public yet. Rumours have it that it could be for the purpose of amending the CBN Act, which the Senate passed on Saturday. President Buhari is believed to be seeking ways to resolve the N23.7 trillion ways and means loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The loan is to be securitised by converting it to bond, which was already approved by both chambers. However, in the past couple of weeks, the House has become unpredictable due to the ongoing fight between Gbajabiamila and his deputy, Idris Wase.

Last Wednesday, the duo had a public spat over the sitting of the House, as Gbajabiamila continues to prevent the convening of the House in his absence amid rumors of impeachment. It is believed that Wase is angry with Gbajabiamila for endorsing Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker for the incoming 10th House of Representatives.
