Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde Declares Being 10% Poorer in Last Four Years

MAKINDE

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has revealed that within the four years of his governorship, he has become 10% poorer. Makinde made this statement during a press briefing with journalists in Ibadan.

The governor stated that he submitted his asset declaration form to the Code of Conduct Bureau office in Ibadan, which is situated on State Secretariat, Total Garden Road on Friday. He explained that according to the Constitution, it was mandatory to submit his asset declaration form at the end of his first tenure and before his second tenure commences.

Makinde had declared assets worth N48 billion on the assumption of office in 2019. However, he did not reveal the details of his current assets as he said that would be made public at a later time.

According to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a governor must declare their assets at the end of their first tenure as a legal obligation. Makinde stated that due to focusing on the affairs of the state, there was a decline of 10% to 12% in his personal business.

“I have not really had the chance to look after my business. We have been looking after Oyo State business; so, I’m not surprised that there were losses a bit here and there, but I’m still okay,” Makinde said.

The deputy governor, Bayo Lawal, also submitted his asset declaration form before the governor’s inauguration for his second tenure on Monday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
