Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, have both fulfilled their obligation by submitting their Asset Declaration Forms on Saturday, as required by Paragraph 11 Part 1 to the 5th Schedule of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This paragraph prescribes that every political office holder must declare their assets once they assume office and at the end of their tenure. The Lagos State Governor and his deputy satisfied Section 185(1) of the constitution by declaring their assets before taking their oath of office.
The asset declaration exercise was conducted by Prof. Samuel Ogundare, representing the South West zone as the Board Member, and was witnessed by Hon. Taofeek Abdulsalam, and Mrs O Popoola, Lagos State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau.
Governor Sanwo-Olu applauded the exercise and thanked all those who played a role. In his statement, he said, “My deputy and I have satisfied that necessary requirement before we take the oath of office. Thank you, Prof. S.F Ogundare, the board member representing South West zone, for administering the assets declaration process. I also thank Rt. Hon. Taofeek Olawale Abdulsalam, member, and Mrs O Popoola, Lagos State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau for being witnesses.”
This exercise serves as a reminder of the need for political office holders in Nigeria to be accountable and transparent, and it is an essential step towards ensuring that potential corruption is curtailed. It is a welcome development in the governance of Lagos State.
