Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has renamed eight state-owned tertiary institutions in honor of the state’s heroes. This move is to show the government’s deep reverence for their memories and contributions to various human aspects.

The Sokoto State University’s new name is Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio University, renamed in honor of Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio. The State University of Education has been renamed Shehu Shagari University of Education in honor of Shehu Shagari. Additionally, the College of Education has been renamed Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki College of Education in honor of Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki. The new teaching hospital has been named Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar Teaching Hospital in honor of Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar. The College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences bears the name Ambassador Shehu Malami College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences in honor of Ambassador Shehu Malami. The College of Nursing Sciences has been renamed Balaraba Buda College of Nursing Sciences in honor of Balaraba Buda. The College of Midwifery has been named Aisha Ahmad Gandi College of Midwifery in honor of Aisha Ahmad Gandi. Finally, the College of Legal and Islamic Studies is now known as Haliru Binji College of Legal and Islamic Studies, in honor of Haliru Binji.
