President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence that he is leaving Nigeria in a better state than it was when he came into power in 2015. In his farewell broadcast in Abuja, the outgoing president expressed his appreciation to all Nigerians who supported him during his tenure. He stated that he is forever grateful to the millions who prayed for him during his first term of office while he was ill, and promised to pray for the nation to thrive in peace. Buhari stated that he feels fulfilled that the rebirth of Nigeria had started with his administration. He believes that the incoming administration will accelerate this walk towards the fulfillment of Nigeria’s destiny as a great nation.



The president briefly listed some of his administration’s achievements in the last eight years. He noted that Nigeria’s influence had continued to grow on the international scene, with notable Nigerians occupying headship and leadership positions in global bodies. In addition, he commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their support and cooperation in making democracy thrive in Nigeria on the principles of separation of powers.



On security challenges, Buhari stated that his administration had made considerable progress in reducing banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, and other criminal activities. He called on Nigerians to sustain the gains made by being more vigilant and supporting the security agencies. The president expressed sadness over those citizens still in captivity, and promised that the security agencies are working tirelessly to reunite them with their families unharmed.



Buhari also spoke about his commitment to tackling corruption in Nigeria. He expressed happiness that considerable progress had been made in repatriating huge sums of money back to the country. The outgoing president also mentioned the properties illegally acquired from Nigeria’s commonwealth, which have been recovered.



Overall, President Buhari expressed his gratitude to Nigerians, stating that he was confident that the incoming administration would continue to steer Nigeria on the path of greatness.
