The head coach of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel, has revealed why he substituted the midfielder, Leon Goretzka after just 14 minutes during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Koln, remarking that the decision was regrettable.
As a reliable contributor to the team, Goretzka cut a disheartened figure during the post-match celebrations and title party, but Tuchel has apologized to him for it and stated that it was the title that mattered most to the team.
Bayern Munich successfully retained their Bundesliga crown, which was made possible after Jamal Musialia’s 89th minute winner and Borussia Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Mainz.
Although Dortmund began the day two points ahead of Bayern, the latter managed to win the title thanks to the goal difference.
Edin Terzic’s team had a chance of winning the title when Koln equalized with a penalty kick just nine minutes left in the game, prompting Tuchel to introduce Mathys Tel and Musiala at the expense of Goretzka, who only came in during the 71st minute, exchanging places with Ryan Gravenberch.
Tuchel clarified his reasons for substituting Goretzka, saying that he had to revert to the 4-2-3-1 formation for the last ten minutes of the game, regardless of Goretzka’s disappointment.
