Senate Reviews Bill to Compensate #EndSARS Victims and More

In the latest episode of “So This Happened,” we discuss the Nigerian Senate’s passing of a bill for compensation of victims affected by the #EndSARS protests that took place in 2020.

The bill seeks to create a fund that will support victims of police brutality and violence, as well as individuals who suffered losses during the protests. The fund would be managed by a board of trustees that will oversee the disbursement of the relief funds.

In another story, we review the tragic incident of a student from the Federal Polytechnic in Ilaro, Ogun State who committed suicide after allegedly losing his school fees and that of his friend to online gambling. The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of online gambling and the need for stricter regulations to protect young people.

Lastly, we take a look at the handing over of the transition document and baton of service to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu. The ceremony was attended by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and marked the beginning of the party’s transition process.

The passing of the bill for compensation of #EndSARS victims, the dangers of online gambling, and the handing over ceremony demonstrate the complex issues facing Nigeria today. As we continue to confront these challenges, we must remain vigilant and work towards creating a safer and more just society for all.
