CareerLife Nigeria empowers career women with mentorship programme for workplace re-entry

CareerLife Nigeria, an NGO dedicated to promoting career success, has completed the second cohort of its career moms mentorship programme. This initiative was specially designed to empower mothers who had taken a career break to raise children and were facing challenges to find their way back into the workforce. Founder of CareerLife Nigeria, Yewande Jinadu, said, “Many women encounter significant difficulties when attempting to return to work after having children, and often end up leaving their jobs altogether. Having personally experienced these struggles after the birth of my first child, I decided to establish this programme to provide women with the essential support system they needed to regain control of their careers.”

The comprehensive 10-week mentorship programme focused on empowering participants to overcome workplace barriers and stereotypes, confront limiting beliefs, navigate office politics effectively, avoid common job search pitfalls, and prioritise overall wellbeing as women. The mentorship programme facilitated transformative conversations throughout its duration and covered empowering topics.

The programme also helped participants to revitalise their professional networking platforms and gain visibility in their career fields. Participants expressed their gratitude for the programme, thanking CareerLife Nigeria for transforming their lives. One participant shared her new passion for reading and writing, revamping her CV using the comprehensive template provided. She received two interview invitations within two weeks of completing the programme, and though she declined one job offer due to unfavourable terms, her self-confidence had skyrocketed. Another participant shared her newfound motivation, stating, “No matter the current circumstances, I constantly remind myself to stay focused on my goals. A career break does not define me.”

CareerLife Nigeria’s career moms programme supports growth and development and helps combat unemployment, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 8. The NGO said it would continue to develop and execute a variety of programmes and activities.
