The Chairman of Governing Council, State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, has described Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as a peacemaker and unassuming leader whose positive impact will be felt greatly in the future.
While speaking during a Thanksgiving Mass for the successful completion of Governor Ugwuanyi and his deputy’s eight-year tenure, Msgr. Ike commended the governor for his commitment to dialogue and making peace, irrespective of political or religious differences. He went on to praise the governor for investing heavily in education by empowering people during the establishment of the university and other interventions in the sector.
In his sermon at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Ogui, Enugu, Msgr. Ike remarked that Enugu State remains peaceful and progressive in terms of development in education, health, infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and security, despite the unforeseen challenges experienced during Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration.
The cleric went on to point out that history would be kind to Governor Ugwuanyi for his uncommon leadership style and his commitment to the affairs of God. He also acknowledged the governor for entrenching peace in the state when security challenges were rampant in other states in the South East geo-political zone.
Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev. Dr. Callistus Onaga, also appreciated Governor Ugwuanyi and his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Ezeilo, for their successful completion of public service. He stated that the eight-year tenure was a big achievement and thanked God for the emergence of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai as the governor and deputy governor of Enugu State, respectively, from May 29, 2023.
The Thanksgiving Mass was attended by dignitaries, including Dr. Mbah and his wife, the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi, and former governors of old Anambra State and old Enugu State, among others.
Shortly after the Mass, Governor Ugwuanyi inaugurated the administrative building of the Enugu State House of Assembly, the first-ever flyover bridge to be constructed by the Enugu State Government, among other projects marking the successful completion of his tenure.
