As preparations continue for the formal inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at Eagle Square, Abuja, tight security measures have been put in place at the venue.
Guests arrived as early as 6 am to secure the best positions ahead of the inauguration formalities, scheduled to commence at 10 am. Armoured personnel carriers and security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the military, and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were among those present at the entrance gates leading to the venue.
Moving under tight security, VIPs were brought in buses from the Old Parade Ground, with most having to walk a few metres to gain access through a single-security gate. Notably, invitees from the diplomatic community and traditional rulers from western Nigeria were seen arriving for the event.
Meanwhile, the incoming President, Bola Tinubu and the outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari are yet to arrive at the venue. In his last national broadcast to the nation yesterday, outgoing President Buhari stated that he is leaving Nigeria in better stead than he met it in 2015 – when he first took office. Having served two terms of four years each, he expressed his hope to relocate to Daura once he hands over to his successor today.
