In the early hours of Monday, Olayiwola Close, a police post in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State was set on fire by angry youths, resulting in the injury of a police officer on duty. The reason behind the attack is currently unknown, but the policeman with a head injury was rushed to the emergency center at the toll gate along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway for prompt treatment. The motivation behind the attack is currently being investigated by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

During an attempt to take over the Alausa Police Station in Ikeja on Sunday 18th July 2021, two suspected members of the Yoruba Nation were arrested. The agitators, numbering about 15, invaded the police station and started recording themselves while chanting war songs. Police reinforcement was promptly dispatched to the scene and dispersed the protesters, and two of the agitators were arrested. Charms, cutlasses and insignia of the group were also recovered from the suspects.

The Lagos State Fire Service was mobilized to the scene of the police post attack, and they were able to put out the fire, but part of the building of the police post was affected, and no weapon was stolen.

The attacks on police stations in Nigeria have been rampant in recent times. The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has enjoined police officers to ensure maximum safety, especially around their stations and to be unwavering in the face of such attacks.
