The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, at Eagles Square amidst a gathering of top government officials, political leaders, and members of the public.
Shettima, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, previously served as the Governor of Borno State for two terms from 2011-2019. During his time as governor, he was known for his efforts to combat Boko Haram terrorism and promote economic development in the state.
He is expected to work closely with President-elect, who will be sworn in later today, to address various challenges confronting the country including insecurity, economic recession, and regional tensions.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, has been grappling with a range of socio-political and economic issues in recent years. The new administration has promised to take bold steps to tackle these challenges and create a more inclusive and prosperous society for all Nigerians.
