Tinubu Sworn In as Nigeria’s 16th President

Bola Tinubu has taken the oath of office as the 16th President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. At exactly 10:37am, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, administered the oath of office on Mr Tinubu, with his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, by his side. Former President Muhammadu Buhari, his wife, Aisha Buhari, and son, Yusuf, also stood behind Tinubu during the oath-taking ceremony.

Prior to Tinubu’s inauguration, Kashim Shettima assumed the post of Vice President of Nigeria at exactly 10:28am.

Winning the presidential election held on February 25 under the umbrella of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu defeated other notable opponents including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
